PIGS

Red Wattle & Mangalitsa Pigs

I chose the Red Wattle because they have sweet natured personalities and produce quality marbled meat on pasture.
They get their name from the two fatty, dangly bits that are located on each side of their face.
I think its cute.
Our Red Wattle named Wally is our daddy pig and he follows me around the pasture like a puppy. Always wanting me to scratch behind his ears. Love this pig!

Mangalitsa Hog

Honestly, I chose the Mangalitsa hog because I wanted something different. I mean how many people can say they have seen a curly haired pig?
According to MBOAR.ORG the Mangalitsa is a Hungarian breed. They come in 3 colors White, Red & Swallow belly which is black on their back and white on the belly. I really like the reds and that line is Romanian. My husbands family came over from Romania in the early 1900’s. How cool is that?!
Mangalitsas are a lard breed which makes them fantastic for sausage and charcuterie meats. They produce a high quality lard which is used for cooking. The leaf lard is highly sought after by bakers.
They are great foragers and do very well on pasture. Not to mention they are super sweet piggies & love to get belly rubs.
